My onkyo 606 receiver remote does a pretty good job at controlling everything. The basics that is.

I want a remote that will do everything the original remotes do. Like go into setting, activate recordin on my dvr etc.

Which do you suggest?

I recently got a Harmony 700 and am very pleased. It can only do 6 devices though, so consider that.

The Harmony One is getting rave reviews and this is a slightly cheaper and reduced version, but with the same basic ergonomics (which are much improved over older Harmony models, IMHO.)

There are often deals on the 700 or the One, plus I've seen bundles with the PS3 Harmony IR relay, if you have a PS3.

Will that control the 360 as well?

I know harmony makes one specifically for the 360, should I get that one instead?

I have two seperate harmonies. Both will control xbox. Figure out how many devices you PLAN to have. They are easy to program. PS3 needs a seperate adaptor for 50 bucks shuck works fine.

Only for those who still have a loaded man-sack.

On the real, what's the Budget? I like the Harmony One for a budget ir solution. Personally, I don't think I could do without RF at this point. It's just so cool. So I would go H900. Nice piece.

Yes it will. I have the 360 version for my HT, and I can tell you that the 700, and so presumably the One, is a far better remote. I'm talking about ergonomics. The button layout, the feel of presses, the size of the buttons, and the selection of buttons.

They can all control devices exactly the same as they all go to the same code database for programming (via. a PC app and a website).

So the differences you are paying for is the ergonomics.

I'm sure RF is really nice, but you'll be paying a couple hundred dollar premium to get it. Maybe less, but it's still significant.

The h900 is a little more than I would like to spend.
Honestly the 700 is a borderline expensive for me.

Does the harmony use the same codes as my onkyo remote?
Why can't my onkyo remote, say, go into my tv settings or blu Ray settings like a harmony?

Yes, it was for me as well. It's a freaking remote, right?

As I said, you are paying for ergonomics. You could look around for a different discontinued or otherwise nicely discounted Harmony, and it will work just as well. Just won't feel as nice to use. But I'd be looking at reviews as every Harmony seems to have its quirks.

A harmony will send the same codes to your receiver as your Onkyo remote, if that's what you are asking.

Likely your Onkyo remote just doesn't have the functionality or a complete set of codes to fully control your TV and whatnot built in. It's a half assed universal thrown in with a receiver.

Cool. ABG, as much of a douche he is, made a good suggestion. Harmoy ONE clone on the cheap is nice.

I like the urc R50 much better for a non RF solution on a tighter budget. $80 and you end up with a very solid color LCD remote. Bought one for my Father in law and he loves it. Easy to use and no PC programming. I'm pretty sure it does xbox 360.

Picked up the 700 today for $119 today.
This remote is so much nicer than what comes with all my components. The backlight is nice as well as the being rechargeable.
The software is kind of sluggish but it works and found all my devices.
The only other negative is, it takes forever for everything to switch over when I hit an activity button. Its way faster walking over and turning them on myself..... but Im lazy.
Overall Im happy with the purchase. :)
Thanks again guys.
