The use case for the iPad will depend on your computing habits. To me there are some big benefits to this device:
  • Larger screen for watching video on the go. Great with kids.
  • A bigger screen for web browsing. If the device is sitting around the family room it'll get used. Frequently I need to check a web page for something or another when relaxing at home. Often the iPhone is annoying to use due to the screen. The iPad will do nicely.
  • Performance. From everything I've seen and read the iPad is fast. That's one word I never hear in conjunction with a netbook.
  • Universal iPhone/iPad apps. If the developers want you can have a single app that runs on both devices and fully utilizes the capabilities of each. Given how much I've invested in iPhone apps already ($.99 x 250?) this is big.
  • iPhone Compatibility. This is even bigger since I know I'll have plenty of apps day 1.
Flash is a non-issue to me. Youtube and Vimeo are already using HTML5 based video players that work without flash. Other video sites will follow. I don't care about Facebook games.
And some of the other features (multitasking, better push, etc.) may wery well be coming with iPhone OS 4.0.

All good points but I had to take my iPhone to the Apple store to get checked out last night.
While waiting a lady came in asked an Apple rep about how to pre-order the iPad and he told her "If you want my best advice wait until the second generation of it to hit"
They already know there is a camera slot I think the iPad will be something cool but I also know how Apple loves to add things after you just buy it. I was a bit surprised by the sales rep comments but I also respected it. I see the points you made but with Jobs in the past I think there is more down the road that was not announced. I am going to wait and see personally.

I am on my second iPhone so I am qualified to say this:

Apple consumers are idiots. We pay more for less and then we go back 12 to 24 months later and we DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!

I look forward to the $299 iPad V2.0!

Man see the prices for iPad games??? The best thing about the iPhone/iTouch is the CHEAP fun games. Now we can buy the same games for up to 10X as much for iPad.

I hope goes down to say $2.99 for most games like the .99 standard price for iPhone games.

The Netflix streaming app did make me want one though!

Saw that netflix gig. Looks killer. Might replace my air with this thing.

DK, you must not use that air for any real computing if you could replace it with the ipad. I think its funny to imagine that this first itteration will revolutionize anything. I can see how after a few more versions and upgrades it could do alot but right now. sorry. not it.

I would wait for the next version. I doubt it will ever replace an air but it will have more added. Buying it now would be a waste. I think most of us who ran out and bought the first apple anything learned that.

Yeah these prices are a little nuts. I think there'll be some serious nerdrage if they try to stick to those prices for very long.
I'd be interested to see the quality difference between the "HD" and iPhone version of some of these games.

I am pretty sure developers are less than pleased with .99, maybe they see this as the opportunity to push prices closer to PopCap on PC?

I am not sure if graphics would make me want to pay more. I mean PvZ looks GREAT on my iPhone and so do a lot of other games. I am not ready to todd Pop Cap another $4 for better graphics. Heck my iPhone version looks great compared to the PC ersion. (IMHO)
